This blog is for fun and enlightenment. I try not to be too crass, too opinionated, too critical or too political as some of these things tend to drive new and old friends away. BUT, I do ask that you be open-minded and understanding in that we are all different and unique human beings who sometimes make the mistake of saying things before we think them through. Live well, laugh often, love much, and by all means, come back soon.

Halloween Tribute

Two weeks ago I allowed Snappy the privilege of going out to play. You know how much fun and how carried away my loving Snappy can be at times. Snappy had just photographed this scene and then hopped in the truck with me at the side of the road to head for home... down the hill we went.

We had just passed by the field on the other side of this silo which stood in the shadow of the mountain when off to the right Snappy, and her great eye, caught a glimpse of something waving in the afternoon breeze.

"Ooohhweee", squealed Snappy with delight. "Let's go see what this pretty little fun place is." Always aiming to keep Snappy happy I played along and pulled into the gated field for further investigation, or trespassing... at the time I wasn't sure which activity I was undertaking. BUT, it looked like a fun place to be.

Why, look at the praying statues, Snappy said with delight.

"Yes, and statues of animals at the gated entrance," I declared, as the picture became clearer to both of us.

We had, unbeknownst to us, stumbled into a pet cemetery. Oh, what fun!

We paused at Mitzi's grave and bowed our heads for a moment.

And noticed a headstone in her perfect image, collar still in place.

Another kitty headstone appeared to be sitting all alone without a grave to mark or grieve upon. She sat and purred, content to be exactly where she was. Our presence did not startle her in the least.

We met some Irish boys.

Louie and Shawn Murray.

There was a grave where the love runneth'ed over with an elaborate show of flowers and flags. Obviously a pet that would never be forgotten by his family.

And darling Pepper Whitmer who had been such a wonderful pet that it took two look alike pups to express the love her family felt for her. You were indeed a GOOD pet, Pepper. AND don't you forget it.

But my FAVORITE GRAVES OF ALL and so appropriate for this Halloween Day post were....

Mom....

Lucky....

And Spare, THE ADAMS FAMILY. HA HA HA

Oh, laughing here..... now I'll have that song going through my head all day long. LOL

Sometimes Halloween is not spooky at all. It's just a tribute to the dead that we once loved and for some of us, still do, whether they be human or four legged. I found this to be a truly fun way to spend a bit of time and I want to pay another visit at Christmas to see if there are snowmen and Santas on the graves. A pet cemetery in Roanoke. Who knew??

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, EVERYONE! Enjoy this most fun holiday of the year.

I've never seen a real pet cemetery.

Well I knew they were out there, but I've never seen one either. Those are sort of odd little jack-o-lantern totem poles, you know?

Thanks for visiting my Iowa blog! Always nice to have a new visitor! I moved to Iowa 7 years ago (from Canada) and love it even though it's not officially "home." I loved the photos in the pet cemetery - such a peaceful place. I could picture the pups and kitties running around having a ball in there. I especially liked the first picture with the old fence though. I love old fences, old barns, etc.

We joke about the grove of trees south of our house being a "pet" cemetery. We have so many of the family pets buried there that I don't dare try to plant any flowers or shrubs there for fear of what I might dig up. I have never seen a real pet resting place. Neat!
