We had the prettiest week-end weather EVER here in Virginia. I dare anyone to show me a prettier day. Come on... show me. Just take a peek out that window at the colors we woke up to. *total heavy sigh at the beauty of it*
So instead of just sitting around with this Charlie Brown round headed dog....
And instead of watching football on the toob de la boob
And prior to one more gorgeous sunset.... I said to me Hubby.....
Hubby..... Let's take a drive up onto the Parkway... you know... that Blue Ridge Parkway thingie that is only 6 miles from our house... let's go up there and take a look see around cuz we need to get outta this house.
So off we went... Fist stop was Pine Tree Overlook.
There's a reason it's called Pine Tree Overlook......
Because of this view!
The only other view that I react to and feel in awe of as much is the view from the south rim of the Grand Canyon. They both make me feel a sense of pride for living in such a great country.
We continued our drive towards the Peaks Of Otter and stopped at Abbott Lake
The parking lots were filled with visitors and folks who had brought blankets to spread on the lawns, tons of camera buffs like myself, local people who visit every autumn and many visitors from out of state. Our area is a top notch locale for those seeking autumn photos of the mountains and it's scenery. October is THE month to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Abbott Lake is not a boating lake. You may do a bit of fishing from shore but they have strict rules. It's a scenic lake. Mostly for looking at and not touching.
You should come see it next October. You won't be sorry you did.

Beautiful! We're experiencing vivid colors here in Southeast TN/Northwest GA too. I posted some Monday from a trip up the mountain overlooking the TN River Gorge.... makes me swoon it's so beautiful. Thanks for taking us along on the Parkway. :c)

Oh how I love living in the South in the fall. (Unfortunately I don't live 6 miles from the Parkway).
It is definitely time to take a trip to the North GA mountains. Maybe this Saturday!

Love your pictures! We were also on the Parkway last Sunday. We went to Roanoke on 460, got on the Parkway and only went a short distance to 43 North. We took 43 to 81 and then took 60 East back this way. We had planned on going to Peaks of Otter, but missed our turn in Bedford, so we went on toward Roanoke.
It was a gorgeous day to be out. Everything was so colorful.
I love it! There is nothing like fall on the east coast.

Funny, I took the same route as you I think! Sunday the kids and I headed to Vinton because Braden and Dalton were invited to a Birthday party, we took the parkway, it's gorgeous right now!
