So I had met this person for the first time. I was engrossed in reading a pamphlet and all of a sudden she tossed something down in front of me that SHE wanted me to read and out of the corner of my eye I saw her rolling her eyes at me when I did not grab it immediately and start to read it right away as she seemed to want me to.
I know it's not nice, but I'm hoping Santa won't show up at her house this year, in fact I think I'll steal one of the wheels off his sleigh when he gets to my house so he can't go any further. What? Whadaya mean no wheels?
The thought of Christmas this year just is not appealing to me. Oh, don't get me wrong, I want to get gifts, I just don't want to go shopping for gifts. I've attempted to twice and do nothing but walk around in circles at the mall and have NO CLUE what to get anyone. Serious here.... I'm having a real problem with the entire process this year and it's making me grumpy. I've about decided just to send everyone a gift certificate and I'm not kidding.
Generally speaking I'm done and have it all wrapped by this time of the year but me not feeling the joy or the ho ho ho of it this time around.
Guess I should just stop monkeying around.
Who invented this holiday anyway?

Hi Di! Yeah...I find myself struggling to...but it is usually this time of evening..so it might be because I'm so blasted tired.
I dream about it though. I have things I do want to do..just don't have the oomph!
We aren't supposed to buy gifts this year..but we said that last year. With my family..to be honest..it is just too much! There are way too many of them and I just can't get out there and shop this year. I'll the tiny one something..you know...but...other wise..I don't think so.
One year..I made copies pictures, bought frames and gave those for Chrismas..after that it was all downhill.
Some of the family who are in business for themselves and it has fallen off badly, have two or more children in College far away, and business has fallen off something terrible...and are struggling and it's hard on everyone.
Anyway...there are moments...perhaps when I get things decorated a bit it will come more easily. I have "yippee" moments...then crash! Ah well..
Sorry to run on and on Sweetie...

I need to proof read... What I meant to say is "I'll buy the tiny one something..." :)
And I thought getting through Thanksgiving was going to be bad enough. Sigh. At least my kids know not to ask for anything unreasonable as I am STILL UNEMPLOYED. HR Gods, DO YOU HEAR ME?!!
Anyway, just stay away from irritating people and all will be fine. That's my mantra for the holiday season.
Uugh I have problems with getting gifts too, I had many ideas but now I ran out of them. I used all of them :P This year I'll probably just bake some funny-shaped biscuits for my friends and put them in a nice cookie box or something. Sweet and simple.
I'm sick of useless gifts .. Is it rude to not like the gift you got? Because sometimes I feel like people don't know me at all when they give me something completely not-my-thing. My dad got me a necklace for my 18th birthday. I don't wear ANY jewelry. Hasn't he noticed that? or maybe she wanted me to wear it... I don't know. I became grumpy now ... :P
However ... being unemployed (or a student who's always broke in my case) makes it even more difficult ... or maybe on the other hand easier because you have to be creative and you can come up with something more interesting and meaningful. :)
Happy holidays, one way or another. :)
Going to the mall any day of the year puts me in a foul mood! That's why I love etsy for shopping online. Your friends and family can open and account (free) and window shop, marking things they like as "favorites", then you can shop from their favorites list. And for those gift certificates, giftcertificates.com lets them pick out for themselves which store they want to shop at. xo, suzy
ON LINE SHOPPING. I'm seriously considering gift cards this year too. We gave them a family vacation last year and it was great, but I can't afford that again. I never test out my holiday spirit until after Thanksgiving - and the first snow - and... well I wait untilt he last minute. Always have. One year the post man (he's our neighbor thank goodness) actually delivered a gift to my door on Christmas Eve after everyone was here. Now that is cutting it close!
Ok, I know... I'm no help to you. Rotsa ruck! Bah Humbug
I know Di, the more commercial Christmas becomes, the more difficult it is to get into the spirit. Not to mentions Christmas decorations have been in the store since before Halloween!
Things are tight for us this year so who knows what the girls will get. Sure wish I had more work lined up for the next couple months.
Your header looks great!!! Awesome job! Btw, did you know you can change the color of the black bar at the top of your page to clear? There's a few other colors to choose from as well.
Happy Thanksgiving Eve!
Sharon
You'll probably change your mind after you get all the gift certificates, so give it some time. We all feel like this at times. It's why I love Thanksgiving so much. Lots of fantastic food, and family, thankfulness and best of all, no gifts.
Ideally, a gift should come from the heart. But that's not always possible! I've heard of people who are donating to food shelters and charities in the gift recipient's name. Just a thought.
I learned a long time ago that the best present to give someone was something they already had a lot of!
The person who has 392 coffee cups would LOVE a coffee cup! The person who has 17 fishing reels and 38 rods would LOVE a fishing reel or rod or tackle!
The man I work with has a huge clock collection. There is only ONE thing he wants from his wife every year (well, when it comes to the present thing - heh!!) and that is .... a clock!!
And so it goes.
Another idea is this: get calendars! I get my brothers calendars with pictures of things they like -- steam engine tractors, airplanes, ships, and so forth.
Okay. Maybe a nice gift card....! (Um, make mine for Borders Books, okay??!) Good luck!
That made me remember when I was a kid living in Jersey City, New Jersey. Pretty close to a slum. A drunk black guy was sitting on the sidewalk with a bottle in a brown paper bag. As we kids walked by, and maybe one of my cousins looked at him, he yelled, "Don't roll your eyes at me boy! Don't roll your eyes!" And then he started singing it, "Don't roll your eyes!" I don't know why, I never forgot that.
I love Christmas and love Christmas shopping but this year there's no dough and that's no fun.
I LOVE that little sock monkey on your tree! I used to love wandering around the stores looking for gifts when the kids were in school. The mornings during the week are so peaceful with the Christmas music playing, it really gets me in the mood. Now that I'm working part time, I don't have time for it and even though I get home at 1:30, it's just not the same, especially since I'm such a morning person. I really don't know why I decided to take a dumb job,lol....so I actually do most of my shopping online!
