This blog is for fun and enlightenment. I try not to be too crass, too opinionated, too critical or too political as some of these things tend to drive new and old friends away. BUT, I do ask that you be open-minded and understanding in that we are all different and unique human beings who sometimes make the mistake of saying things before we think them through. Live well, laugh often, love much, and by all means, come back soon.

Good News, Bad News

Hubby and I arrived in Linthicum, Maryland Wednesday afternoon. The trip was long and stressful. Even though only a five hour drive, as it turned out there was a huge delay trying to get onto the Beltway around Washington, DC due to construction. Can you say 'bottleneck' down from 4 lanes to 1? UGH. Once on the beltway we were good to go and cruised nicely with the DC traffic but it was at this point we decided we would NOT be taking the same route home.

So why the Buddy worm bait bucket and the Johnson outboard motor? Because after settling into our digs at the Westin Hotel we decided to head out to dinner at our old favorite haunt in Columbia which was where we used to live. Our favorite restaurant there was an Italian establishment named That's Amore'. But it was closed... not just for the day, but C.L.O.S.E.D. for good. Waaaaaah. And so it was that we then ended up at Famous Daves, a great barbecue joint. So far the trip was not going as we had planned.

The food was great. I just hadn't planned on staring at fish lips while eating barbecued beef Wednesday night. Definitely not the same kind of ambiance that the Italian place used to offer us. Let's just say Hubby is lucky to have married a gal with a flexible appetite at a moment's notice.

More tomorrow about this strange and wonderful get away. LOL

I hope it wasn't one of those talking fish...

I would have chosen to take a different route home too, that's for sure.

I can't wait to hear the rest of the story. It's been awhile since I have gotten to take a trip with you. (ok..so just pretend I am not in the back seat! :)

Some of our favorite restaurants have closed here too....makes me sad!

Hi Mona! Doggies were cared for by neighbor girl. The pups liked her and vice versa. :-)

Oh my! Beltway traffic is terrible on a good day. Awaiting news on the rest of your trip.

The Beltway traffic was easy breezy... it was the entrance to the Beltway that was a nightmare and was blocked off down to one lane to get on the beltway. DO NOT DRIVE 66 INTO D.C.!!!

We LOVE Famous Dave's. Such good BBQ. We have to drive 1 hour to get to it, or drive back to the Midwest. Flexible is good, then you can try new things.

You know that old saying? You can never go home again? Sometimes going home can be disappointing, especially when there were such wonderful memories and places you loved.

Oh I'm sorry! The traffic is ALWAYS bad up there. I've never seen it quiet.

I had that experience in Kansas once when I had my mouth and stomach all set for King's Bar-B-Que only to find that it had closed permanently. Really upsets the whole gastrointestinal system. I was so upset I just went to a drive-thru and left town. Hope the rest of the trip goes just perfectly!
