Pre-Thanksgiving Thoughts

I'm hoping that, as last year, that we once again have glorious blue skies for our Thanksgiving Day. It makes for a much more 'thankful' feeling day. It puts a bit of a hop and a skip in your step while readying in the kitchen for the biggest meal of the year. The one that always makes us say, "oooh, I ate too much and I'm not going to do that next year". Ya right. You know you will next year so just stop it. Here, have another piece of pie and just shut up!!

Our home has been prepared with 'the look' of Thanksgiving here and there in it's decor for a while now... in fact since late September I think.

And to be honest.....

I'm sick of it by now.

Gourds, corn stalks, bales of straw, pumpkins and round, brown balls in every decor bowl of my house... BE GONE! Get thee to my cabinets and hide thyself away until Sept. 2010. They make me feel a bit nutso by this time of the year.

Fall is almost over. Halloween is done. Let's move on to Thanksgiving, the day we eat our monster meal.

And may I suggest, with all due respect of course, that you at least attempt to bake a turkey at home. Taking the entire family out to a restaurant on Thanksgiving is just plain lame. A good set of parents or grandparents cooks a meal for their children and grandchildren. Even it it means ordering the turkey pre-baked. Then all you need do is heat it up a bit and slice it. Show the family how much you love them. We choose to buy a naked bird, stuff it with homemade dressing and bake it all day, but a pre-baked can be just as wonderful and juicy, so show some love folks.

Family meals during the major holidays as I was growing up was what cemented our family love and values, and I have no problem in telling those of you who do not give this gift to your children and grandchildren that you are L.A.M.E.

Now, I'm expecting each and every one of you to celebrate in a hardy fashion. So get out there and cook the best meal of the year for those you love and then Give Thanks. Give thanks that you have made it through another year to celebrate and enjoy the day with those who mean the most to you. Take joy in this very special time of the year.

And get rid of the gourds, straw and all the brown and yellow decor immediately after Thanksgiving. In fact... toss it out as soon as you finish eating that second piece of pumpkin pie. It's sooo yesterday by now.

There is no way that I am L.A.M.E.... no way! Although this year will test my non-lameness totally!

There are some elderly folks who want to be the hosts who can't cook or even deal with a turkey but can manage an afternoon out. I give them a pass on the lameness.

I always fix a turkey even if there is no one to eat it but my husband and me.

Hi and thanks sooooo much for writing a comment on my blog so I could find your blog(s)!!! I love what I see so far and was a little unsure which post to comment under..was going to comment the one before this with Missy who doesn't want to go outside in bad weather- what kind of dog is she that doesn't want to go out in bad weather? You'd think she was a poodle not a rottie!!! hahahha!
I'm not sure if I'm considered LAME or not here because they don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Norway and when my husband is out at sea I often see no point in making a big meal for just me and the kids on a weeknight after work and with work the next day...so we've unfortunately jumped over Thanksgiving the last few years since I began working. Last time I was in the states for Thanksgiving, we were staying in the hospital with my mother who was dying..we left her just briefly to run to the IHOP (only place we found open) to get Thanksgiving dinner which ended up being an omlette. Not really what I hoped for on my first trip home for Thanksgiving in many many years but with my mother's illness it didn't matter really, I was just grateful to be with my family and be there with my mom...and that is the true meaning with Thanksgiving- not the decorations or what you eat...but being grateful/Thankful for something important in your life...
Hope you have a great Thanksgiving...I wish you'd post your recipe for homemade stuffing, I'd love to try and make that sometime..
Greetings from Norway!!! ;-))

Oh I know what you mean on the eating out! As a kid, TGiving and Christmas, New Years, Easter were big eating events for our family. I loved having everyone together. I cook every year too and even though it's just been the 6 of us since we left Ca, we still put on a big home cooked meal. It's one of Ashlyn's favorite holiday,lol...now this year I'm excited since my brother, mom, neice and her baby have moved here and will be able to be with us!
I'm hoping for blue skies too and I think I saw that it will be nice weather in the forecast. Funny because in Ca, since we almost always have blue skies and warm weather, I'd hope for crappy rainy weather to put me in the spirit and now since blue skies and warmth is so far and few in between, that's what I'm hoping for now,lol....

How do you always manage to dig up the perfect pics to go with your posts?!

Oh, I forgot, we were on a trip a couple of Thanksgivings ago and ate our meal at a restaurant, it just wasn't the same. No leftovers to make turkey sandwiches and the food just wasn't as good!
