STILL decorating

I stopped into one of my favorite shops today. They have spaces leased out to lots of folks selling vintage and collectible pieces as well as some hand-made items.  I never seem to leave the store without making a purchase.

Today I came across this red lamp and I'd been wanting a small lamp for the corner of my kitchen since we left Maryland in 2004 and I gave my other small kitchen lamp to my sister-in-law.  The red base on this lamp works perfectly with my kitchen colors

I may change out the shade on it at some point or perhaps cover it with fabric, but for now I'm just enjoying the glow it casts in that corner.  So much nicer than over-head lighting.  Oh, and there was a matching one... not sure I need it, but it was under $25 so if this blasted rainy weather backs off tomorrow I may scoot back over their way and get it.

My eyes had spotted this Christmas card tree over a month ago which turns and plays Christmas music too!  Yes... a month ago, and since it was still there I decided it was meant to be and brought it home to sit on my kitchen counter.

Somehow in past years I have always overlooked my kitchen decor when it comes to the Christmas season.  I don't want to go overboard with decorations, but we do spend our first waking hours here and it's the first room Hubby enters when he comes home each night, so a bit of the Holiday spirit should smack him in the face when he walks in the door... yes?

Then there was this cute little glass sleigh which I poured a few of Hubby's favorite jelly beans into to sit under the card tree.  It beckoned to come home with me and I know I'll find a place for it each and every Holiday Season to come.

We did not put up a big tree this year and to be honest I'm afraid to.  The only place we can place it would be in the corner of the family room and Handsome's tail would beat it to death daily. *envisioning smashed ornaments flying everywhere*  Sooo, until next year our tiny sock monkey tree on top of the entertainment cabinet will have to suffice.  That's the reason for all of the small items and Christmas vignettes around the house this year.  A little bit of Christmas here and a little bit of Christmas there. Works for me.

Don't you just love it when you can mix and match old and new and it all comes together? Everything looks so festive.

I haven't even started decorating yet!

I love Christmas! What a pretty lamp and card tree. Your house looks so festive! After all this time, I've just noticed you have an Etsy shop. I'm going to pop over there and take a look :)

Lots of fun things in that store.

Thanks for your comment on my blog today. I left you the following response (and will post it here since you very likely would not see it - heh!):

Di -- interesting you grew up near Algona. You have most likely heard of major cities such as Corwith, Wesley, LuVerne, Britt, Humboldt, Goldfield, Renwick, Bancroft -- and mega cities like Fort Dodge and Mason City! I grew up in that area, too. Small world!

No tree? There have been years when we've had no tree either. But this year I really want one.

Lovin the funkiness of the Christmas Card tree. I just may have to find me one of those!
