The entryway to our home. It greets everyone and sets the tone for what's inside our home. The wall where this small bureau is sitting is a long enough wall I suppose, but this piece is simply not substantial enough for greeting people. But I have no choice.
It's also Missy's favorite place to lay, especially when the front door is open and swung back against the wall. That's part of the problem with this entryway is that when the door is open it takes up much of the wall space, and if I were to place a larger/wider piece of furniture here the door would hit it when open. Grrrr. So I live with a small bureau and it just bugs me to no end.
Just off the entryway the double French doors lead into the formal dining room which I also find to be a bit smallish, in comparison to past dining rooms in other homes we have owned. It feels a bit elbow to elbow when the family gathers here. I would almost rather have a very large eat-in kitchen for family meals than this small formal room. The kitchen is generally where we gather anyway.
Friday we received a surprise Christmas gift delivery at our front door. A florist's truck arrived and the driver handed me a lovely table floral arrangement. A centerpiece for our table.
And so I want to say, "Thank YOU", to my mother-in-law for sending us this perfectly, delicious looking red and white centerpiece arrangement. It has found it's home in our dining room this Holiday season and we will think of you every time we walk past the dining room! We love it!!
And to my readers, Yes, I should have set the table completely for these photos but I was too excited and did not want to take the time. I just wanted to enjoy it on the table immediately and let Snappy Finger do her work.
It really is perfect, Sylvia. THANK YOU!!

Makes me wanna sit down and get elbow-to-elbow with you while scarfing up some kind of holiday feast! What time shall I be there?
Thank you for not setting the table. To me, that would have been insane~
I received a centerpiece too, on Friday from my sister-in-law. She always sends one and this year it is particularly beautiful. So I took photos and sent them to her. And no, I absolutely did not set the table. I'll set it when I'm going to eat, thank you.
Di, the centerpiece is gorgeous, but so is your home. It's an absolute stunner... don't forget not to sweat the small stuff or the things that may not seem quite right to you -- to others, it appears perfect! *wink*
I agree! Your home is absolutely beautiful - and beautifully decorated! And I know you didn't ask my opinion, but you know what I'd like to give you for that entry? A beautiful hall tree! One of those with the mirror, seat, hooks for coats, etc. We inherited one from my husband's family and it's always a conversation piece. And actually very useful!
Oh MY! That nutcracker is wonderful! Your home looks beautiful and would you just look at all that snow? Canna I have some? Please?
We sat out on the patio yesterday, my daughters and I and made egg decorations...or as they call it ..eggery. It was warm and balmy and we sat out until nearly 6pm and it got too dark to work.
Then I came on and looked you beautiful outdoors. The beauty of yours of the comforts of our..which?
I mean...Christmas is snow...it JUST IS! Beautiful pictures, Di! What a photographer you are!! I still have last years pictures...
Hugs,
Mona
p.s. The centerpiece looks wonderful and those chairs! What beautiful treatment. I want to do my chairs next year... :)
I am glad you didn't set the table, that would have been a lot of trouble! The centerpiece is lovely, as is your home. Your house feels very inviting when I look at the pictures.
You have such a beautiful home. Thank you for sharing it with us. The centerpiece is so pretty!
Your home looks so festive! Makes me want to just relax and enjoy a big old cup of eggnog with you. We could discuss all the fabulous sales we are going to attend after the holidays and the antique shops we will visit in the spring. We could compare camera features and maybe even learn something new.
I would really enjoy spending the afternoon with you. Merry Christmas, my dear, dear Friend!
Well I have to tell you that you may think that bureau is too small but it's gorgeous! Just let everyone be greeted by the big sweet dog. :)
nice post. thanks.
