As if it's not bad enough that I sit here all day blogging away trying to keep ya all entertained.
You all are giving me the gift of tendonitis, tennis elbow, computer eyes, AND a fat patootie TOO.
Could some of you do me a favor and shut off that stupid magic word that we commenters have to type just so we can say, "HELLOOO, I've been here visiting you"? I've been blogging for a year and a half and only had one very minor instance of some oriental harassing me. Otherwise it has not been necessary to turn those obnoxious magical words on.
Do you realize how annoying they are to those of us who visit tons of blogs every day... maybe you are not getting comments because of having it turned on. Especially those of you who are just new to blogging... I probably came to visit you and wanted to help you out with your comments, but dang.. now I'm thinking about not coming to see you anymore because it's just a pain.
SHUT 'EM OFF FOR GOSH SAKES!!!

I've said it. I've blogged about it. I've even tried to not go to blogs which make me do it. Yeah, as snarky as that sounds. Yeah.
Oh and the "frosting on the cake" is blogs which make you do Word Verification and then they have Comment Verification turned on too! Whatttttttttttttttttt?!?
I have Comment Verification on. Thus I read all Comments, BEFORE I Publish them. Soooooooo, I don't let spam get in my comments! That way!!!! Duhhhhhhhhhhhh...
So, what do we do? Take a stand? I was once on a Photo A Day blog, where some guys did take a stand and said they would not try to comment, where they had to do Word Verification.
Do you think WOMEN have the _ _ _ _ to do that, in "Pretty Blog Land"?

Already had them off ;0) I hate them too. AND if you do get spam the blog author has the right to delete them! So, go for it people, take off word verification!

Everytime I take the word verification off mine I get buried in Russian porn. Yea me. Must have something to do with the blog name or something. I do drop it every once in a while but as soon as they start spamming me back up it goes! I hate it too.
I don't like word verification either. I had it on for about a week the first or second month after I started the blog,three years ago and couldn't see the point of it, so turned it off. Haven't had that much spam. I know a few bloggers who won't leave a comment if that option is activated.
I kept Southern Hospitality Rhoda's list of hints for blogging on my sidebar for quite awhile. She addresses word verification in that list. I removed it recently when updating my page.
I have comment moderation going right now. I'll probably go back to no moderation, eventually. That option shouldn't be too much of a problem for commenters, because the comment goes through quickly enough.
I've heard several say the moderation thing isn't so great for folks who get lots of comments. Something to do with it taking so much time to authorize a lot of comments. I get, what some would say, lots of comments and don't find the moderation thing a problem at all.
I'll try taking it off again Di, but for a while I was getting 3-4 porn spam a day. It was getting quite obnoxious. Recently I shut WV off and within a couple hours I already had 2 porn spam again.
I agree, WV sucks, but I'd rather use it than have my readers who subscribe to my comments getting it in their emails also.
Are you feeling cabin feverish? LOL....I hate that word thing too, but I almost put it on my blog. Been getting more spam lately, nothing pornographic though, so I'll hold off. I sure like your comments, and I don't want to honk you off. :-D
I'm sorry! I didn't even know that you could turn it off. New at this stuff, you see. I'll play around, and see if I can figure out how.

I have been blogging for over two years and every time I shut down that damn WF, I get spammed. I get seriously spammed with asian porn. Every. Single. Time.
I can wake up in the morning to find I've been hit over the night more than 50 times. And they seem to go back to the same posts.
I've had it off and on about a dozen times. And mine is staying on.
For anyone who wants to turn theirs off go to Dashboard/Settings/Comments
Don't forget to go to the bottom of the page and do a "save changes". DOH, like I forget to do sometimes.

Yes!!!! I hate those stupid words. There will come a time when I quit commenting on blogs that require "security". It is totally annoying! If they are so worried about spammers, it would be better to enable comment moderation and put the burden on their own backs. End of rant. Thanks for the much needed post.
Di, I don't think mine has that on it. I 'm not sure. Tell me if it does. Not even sure how to find out. I had Chinese porn once but just erased it. A lot of people do it, I've noticed. GREAT rant! LOL
