King Tut

Before our house guest arrived I was getting the bedroom ready for her stay and lo and behold the lamp I had in that room no longer worked.  Oh, the bulb was fine, but the switch on the lamp would no longer turn.  ARRRGH!  And so it was off to Wal-Mart to see if they had not only a quick fix purchase, but it also had to be a lamp that I liked and would suit the room's look for a long time.

I fell in deep like with the lamp base, a touch contemporary but it lightened the look and feel of the room compared to the old heavy wrought iron looking base on the previous lamp with the brown shade with dark butterflies on it.

The problem was that the shades they sold that fit the lamp were not shades I particularly cared for, so I purchased a shade I DID like from another stack they had there.  Well... this shade did not work on this lamp base unless I turned it upside down, so I had to do a bit of rigging on it by heading down to the basement and searching through Hubby's old coffee can of nuts and bolts looking for a large washer, WHICH by the way I found!   I finally got it to work on this base, BUT, now the lamp has the look of King Tut's hat... wide around the top and narrow around the bottom.  HA!  I still like it because if nothing else it is unique.

I love being a trend setter... introducing the new Tut lamp!

You're a trend setter! It's great to take an item and make it "yours," which you have done here. Very nice vignette and I bet Jane was impressed with what your decorator did in her room : ) xx P&H

I would never have thought of turning a lamp shade upside down. What a great idea! Glad that you made it work for you.

When I see the decorators do this on HGTV, I'll know that they stole the idea from you.

I really like that lamp. I think I'll go to Walmart and see if they have any here. Even the Tut shade works.
Thank you for stopping by my blog and for the tip on making my photos larger. I appreciate it!

Funny, as soon as I saw the shade I thought I liked it but there was something a little off about it. But what the heck. If you hadn't told me, I'd never have known it was upside down.
