Oh boy... this post title should draw some people looking for something other than one of my walk videos. That'll teach them for having dirty minds and being a bit on the perverted side. But the truth is that I did indeed do LOTS of heavy breathing on today's walk up the hill to the end of the street and back again. You'd think I was smoking a pack a day. Nope! I put that habit behind me in 1994 never to return. Do you know how bad smokers smell?? ICK. Hope I am not offending any of you readers who may be smokers, but honestly... if you ever quit smoking you will completely understand. Until you walk away from the habit and look at it for what it is, well.... 'nuf said.
My lungs are fresh as a daisy hibiscus these days..... just a bit out of shape. If I were a smoker and attempting this uphill walk you'd be picking me up from the pavement, tossing me in the bed of your pick 'em up truck and dumping me on my front lawn waiting for the am bam bulance to arrive.
Given time, the heavy breathing will hopefully disappear.
I'm tired of sounding like a dirty old man at the other end of a perverted phone call!!

Funny to see you write am bam bulance. We always say bam dam-ulance. :)
Walking up hill always makes me out of breathe! I quit smoking 12 years ago....and yes smokers do stink....I never realized how bad I smelled until I quit smoking! Now when someone walks into a store I am in after smoking in there car - peeeeeuuuuuu...
I still get short of breath going up these hills...I just slow down a little and then keep on going!! It does get better...you are doing so well!!

I thought temperatures in the 70s meant it was a good time for to pull weeds. It seems like no time is a good time for pulling weeds. That sun was HOT! The hot sun combined with having only a bowl of cereal for breakfast and drinking very little water made me a bit woozy after I had been pulling weeds for an hour or two. I didn't think I was going to make it into the house, but I did. I collapsed into the chair until the cool air revived me a bit. Then I pulled a G2 out of the refrigerator and drank it within minutes. I'm glad that I didn't pass out and glad, too, that the garden is weeded!
Hey, you would have been the perfect companion on my hike! We practically wrote the same post today! And I hear you on the knee pain....mine were killing me on the way down.
I quit smoking 9 years ago and still huff and puff on the trails. But I do feel better. I agree about the smell, now that I have stopped it really stinks.
Yup, I quit back in 1989, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made........besides, who can afford it now????
Hi Di! Quit in 1985 and never looked back! But they say you should be walking hard enough to make it difficult to have a conversation so it seems that you are just right for exercising for weight loss and the more muscle you have the more you burn!! You go girl!! xo Cait
I'm so proud of you Di! The photo is amazing!

Di, it is so great that you quit. Not just for you, but for your kids and grandkids. GOOD FOR YOU!
It will disappear. Push yourself a little bit each day and you'll gain stamina and endurance.
As another quitter (which is not usually in vocabulary), I applaud you!
I really am getting moving more with your inspiration!
