My hair is a mess and I'm very much in need of a haircut but putting it off since it will also include a hilite sending the bill up over $100. I try to stretch the in between times as long as possible to keep my annul hair care costs under a bazillion dollars. Hubby had his cut this morning for a twenty dollar bill and his handsome salt and pepper natural color needs no help in staying in style.
While he was away and in the barber chair I decided to see what was on the boob tube and was in luck. It was the 1950's black and white movie 'Caged' starring Eleanor Parker. Here's the description of the movie:
An innocent lands in a womens' prison with crude inmates and a big matron called Evelyn
Now if THAT'S not a riveting one sentence description of a movie then what is? LOL
These are a few of my favorite quotes I jotted down from the movie, keeping in mind that it was filmed in 1950 and the world was a much more 'G Rated' place in the theatres at that time.
"Kitty was off her trolley"
"I got a file as long as your arm"
"Aww, stop tootin' your horn"
And my favorite line telling the other inmates what to do with their life when they get out of prison:
"Get a job slingin' hash, find a good man and have a kid"
That truly sums up what was expected of women in the 50's. Also the conservative views of this decade (ahem).
Here's a few clips from the movie. It had me in stitches when she went into a zombie like state upon having her head shaved. Happens to me every time I go to the hair salon which is another good reason for delaying my next cut and color.
Enjoy YOUR next hair appointment.

Hilarious, Sissy!
That looks like an interesting movie. I looked it up on Netflix; added it to my queue.
Old movies just crack me up for some reason! They sure can make a lot of drama without a not of music!
I got tired of spending $80 every five weeks or so....let my color grow out and I am now salt and pepper..kind of like it..not sure yet...but I do know I LOVE the freedom of not coloring!!
Glad you could find something to entertain you indoors in this weather!!
I'm with you on those expensive cuts and hilights - but I'm not show my gray yet. Maybe when it evens out all over my head.
That movie sounds hilarious. What conservatives do you hang around with? Ha!
Love old movies. I know what you mean about stretching out the hair cuts. They seem to raise in price the older I get.
XO,
Valerie
drives me insane the cost to stay beautiful...lol needless to say I too have a little gray going on and going too for a while!
Oh my gosh, I love old movies.
My hair costs me a hundred bucks every 6 weeks. I figure I earned it, especially after a particularly rough day at school, then I think I've earned a massage too.
I color my own hair and pay $24 for a cut in the home of a retired hair stylist! I guess that is as ood as it gets!
I remember when I saw it years ago. I remember feeling the rage and thought "I would end up in real trouble because I would have bloodied someones lip." Solitary? Is that what they call it? :)
Gray or whatever..no one touches my hair. I even cut it myself lately because it has gotten so expensive. I part it down the back..bring it to each side and whack it off. Measure to my chin for length. Of course my hair is curly and you can't tell where I have cut. :) That helps...and I just pull it back most of the time. I'm lazy! Pure laziness, yep..
I loved seeing the clip..it brought back memories...but that movie was one of those frusterating ones!~
Made me think of Lindsey Lohan too...I hear they unceremoniously removed her extensions...and her eye lashes...
I do the hair and color every six weeks too and it costs me around $80.! But since I want no gray...color it is!! I also get a mani and pedi every two to three weeks and I recently got a facial and massage!! Ahhh! I feel so pampered. But I am a queen you know...so this is expected!!
You need to treat yourself more often.
Hugs

I am at the exact
stage with my hair, Di!
Think I have to do
something about it before
I go home, though ~
don't want to scare my
folks!! Love the movie
quotes and I do hope
that you are indulging
yourself as you miss
your sweet Missy. I've
thought about you so
much the past few days
as we've been running
around caught up in
summer activities. Just
peeked at your last
couple of posts and you
seem to be doing okay.
Be kind to yourself : )
{And it's okay to be
"off your trolley" for
a while}!!!

Thanks for coming by to visit. It's nice to make new friends. It's just not fair that it costs so much to have our hair done. I don't do the highlights thing so just do my color home. Saves a little there. Funny clip. Those old movies are fun to watch and see how times have changed too.
Now I want to see that movie! Aside from the head shaving, it doesn't look nearly as seedy and terrifying as today's prison films. I've given a lot of thought to how I'd survive (and escape being made someone's "girlfriend") if I ended up in prison. You know - because there is such a big chance of that...but you never know. I could be framed! I think I'd just act crazy so everyone would stay away from me. I really hope it never comes to that.
