This is my Congressman, Mr. Bob Goodlatte.
I contacted his local office today regarding the situation that I have been presented with in obtaining my mother's death certificate from Mexico where she passed
away on February 1st, 2011.
The U.S. Embassy in Mexico had advised me that since another person in Mexico
had laid claim to my mother's death certificate that they could issue a
RODAC form (Report of Death of American Citizen Abroad).
Today I sent the Embassy all of the required information, but now the
Catch 22 is that in order to get the RODAC I must send them the death certificate and to get it I must contact a Mexican attorney.
I don't know about you, but this sounds like a real bucket load of something to me!
My brother already sent $145 to a man who said he would get one for us, but he got taken to the cleaners/scammed, and I'm not sending one more red cent to that country of thieves.
I'm counting on YOU, Mr. Goodlatte to get this straightened out so that we, the adult children of Elaine Haxton, a U.S. citizen who's ashes now rest in peace in a church somewhere in Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala, Mexico,
can put our mother's business to rest.
Amen.

Best of luck dealing with your local government if they are anything like ours! I guess that is an ugly thing to say, but it is the truth. I have never been thru anything like this, and cannot imagine your frustration at the moment.
Oh boy. This just gets worse, doesn't it?
Good Luck! The government offices in the U.S. can be slow and annoying. I can't imagine trying to deal with Mexico's government!
Blessings,
Lorilee
I am so sorry!
I would not even know where to start.
I have been wondering about this...let us know what happens...I wouldn't send another penny either..
OMG, Di...I can't imagine dealing with this...you are in a nightmare loop tape for sure. geez...
Bless your heart. I sure hate this for you. I hope your congressman can get it moving for you and get everything taken care of.
This all sounds heartbreaking. Did your mother leave everything to this person in Mexico. Do they have the right to hold onto legal documents that belong to someone else. You know what they say if you can't get any satisfaction from your elected representative go higher. V
Oh Diane I am so sorry. What a farce!!! We just went through something similar because my two brother-in-laws drowned in Canada on a fishing trip. Because no bodies were recovered we had a devil of a time getting death certificates so EVERYTHING was on hold. 8 months later we finally have them but it took major legal work to do so and very costly. My sister-in-law almost lost her house because of all this. Do not die in another country!
Best of luck to you. How frustrating.
What about the bf? He won't give you a copy???
WTH?
UNREAL!!! And Hilary, I believe the BF is deceased, right Di?
just.. unreal.
Yes... the BF passed away 12 days after Mom passed. His daughter is the thief that took Mom's death cert. and the Embassy knows her name and e-mail address but says that they can't give it to us. The BF's ex-wife cleaned out the house and took everything, including Mom's passport, banking info, family photos, etc. I won't let this die if my congressman can't do something about it. I will go all the way to the top because no one should have to go through this just to get a death certificate for a family member. It's just not right!
Just unconscionable. I wish there was something I could do to help. Please don't hesitate to tell me if there are letters, petitions, anything at all. So despicable.
I hope Mr. Goodlatte lays off the good latte and gets this straightened out. Or at least puts you in contact with someone who can.
Sounds like a nightmare, Di....I wish you the best of luck!~Hugs, Patti
It just gets worse and worse!
It's been going on way too long woman. I'm so sorry!
The name Goodlatte is killing me though. What other kind of latte is there? ;)
I have high hopes that he will be able to assist you.
Go. Get. Em!!!! Show up every place that your rep shows up!!!
Di, did you send this post to someeone in his office? If not, you should!
What a freakin mess!
Oh I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this--I so hope you're able to get the help you need to sort all of this out!!!
I'm so sorry for your troubles. A nightmare indeed.
And, yes, sounds like more than a bucket of crap.
I am so sorry that this continues to be a burr in your behind. What a pain and I hope this guy can help you out!!!
Hugs
SueAnn
Ugh. That is absolutely hideous. I'll say a prayer for you - best I can do.
I hope he can help.
This is a classic case of big government getting in the way. Too much bureaucracy. I am SO sorry for your loss. I'm a sporadic reader and must have missed this happening in February Di. Take care and I wish you blessings in finding peace in this situation.
Di -- did your mom have any life insurance in the U.S.? If she did, most companies will deal with the government red tape on their own dime.
Sorry this is such a headache for you. :(
I'm glad you thought to contact your congressman. That's what they're elected to do - help us with messes like yours. Hope he can find a way to end this nightmare for you. Good luck!
Oh my word! I didn't know you just lost your mother! I'm sorry.
What a nightmare to deal with this now! Our government is hard enough to deal with, can't imagine dealing with one as corrupt as Mexico's. I wish you the best!
This is terrible..how ridiculous to have to deal with this!!!
Really sorry you have to go thru this! Hoping it is straightened out soon!
I hope he yanks all those strings STRAIGHT for you right quick!
