The forecast said it would be warm yesterday, but it was cold in the morning. Cold enough that the fireplace started all by itself and begged me to warm my hands a bit by it's side.
And then the sun came out.
Around mid morning I heard a sound outside.
It was Graupel.
I find it to be a weird weather phenomena.
It gifted our property with tiny pieces of snow pellets that fell from the sky.
Not hail, not snow, not sleet, but graupel
Here for just a few minutes and then it was off to wherever graupel goes when it's done graupelling you.

Well, that's cool. I'd never heard of this before. I learned something!
A new word for me too!! Very cool!
Hugs

we had it over here too but i didn't know what it was called!
A good day, I learned a new word! I have seen it but never knew it had a special name.
Stay warm.
sometimes around here the weather dudes call it snizzle. Ha!
I had no idea it had a name!
You took me by surprise, using the word "Graupel'. I've never heard anybody in the States (except other German's) use it and know what it means. :-)
The things I learn on the internet!
I have never heard of that before.
Husband and I tried to walk the beach yesterday but turned back midway, into the wind!!.. it was too darn cold. TOday looks better.
I love learning a new word! And it sounds so German so it suits us:-)
Never heard of graupel before! It sounds like some sort of juice drink.
Keep warm!

Cool - looks like little clumps of powdered sugar. Graupel. Thank you for the vocabulary lesson too. I´ve had my walk so now my body AND brain feel ready for the day. ,)
Just learned a new word, thank you! What a lovely fire...aren't they the best! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, I'm loving yours! :)
My comment disappeared so will try again. I said that I had never heard of a fireplace that comes on by itself..but that it made sense if central heat can come on at a certain temp. I't 80 degrees here today..and there is still a month of Winter left. I hope this goes through..Hugs!!
Never heard of it before, had to Google it... Cool:@)
I had to click the link because I had no idea what graupel was. Learned something new today
Oh..well..DARN! I'm a ninny probably but it sounded logical to me. We rent apartments here in California where all you have to do is just walk in the front door and flip on the switch by the front door and on comes the fireplace AND another switch the lamps. Nice huh? Honest.
So..doesn't it sort of figure that you could have a FIREPLACE that starts up with the temp reaches, oh say, 40 degree's outside?? If not..I say we make some and get RICH! Whadoyasayabouthat? :)
GIANT hug!
Did you make that word up?
How does a fireplace start itself?
I've never heard of graupel.
I've never heard that term before either. A fun word! Graupel, graupel, graupel! :)
THanks for teaching me a new phrase, Di!...:)JP
