Graupel

The forecast said it would be warm yesterday, but it was cold in the morning. Cold enough that the fireplace started all by itself and begged me to warm my hands a bit by it's side.
And then the sun came out.

Around mid morning I heard a sound outside.
It was Graupel.
I find it to be a weird weather phenomena.

It gifted our property with tiny pieces of snow pellets that fell from the sky.
Not hail, not snow, not sleet, but graupel

Here for just a few minutes and then it was off to wherever graupel goes when it's done graupelling you.

You took me by surprise, using the word "Graupel'. I've never heard anybody in the States (except other German's) use it and know what it means. :-)

My comment disappeared so will try again. I said that I had never heard of a fireplace that comes on by itself..but that it made sense if central heat can come on at a certain temp. I't 80 degrees here today..and there is still a month of Winter left. I hope this goes through..Hugs!!

Oh..well..DARN! I'm a ninny probably but it sounded logical to me. We rent apartments here in California where all you have to do is just walk in the front door and flip on the switch by the front door and on comes the fireplace AND another switch the lamps. Nice huh? Honest.
So..doesn't it sort of figure that you could have a FIREPLACE that starts up with the temp reaches, oh say, 40 degree's outside?? If not..I say we make some and get RICH! Whadoyasayabouthat? :)
GIANT hug!
