Trying New Things

Hubby and I, in general, do one VERY large meal per week-end, and last night was that meal.

When I go grocery shopping sometimes I ask him if he would like anything special, and sometimes I just make it a surprise, which I did this time.

He sooo enjoys a big, fat, juicy steak on the grill and then smothering it in mushrooms, while I prefer a pork loin (this one being pre-seasoned by the butcher) because steak, although I enjoy two or three bites, otherwise is just too much for me to digest.

And, of course it is winter squash season so once a month I bring home an acorn or spaghetti squash.  Sliced and buttery and of course mine has a bit of brown sugar.  We enjoy these tremendously.

So, today I posted these photos on Facebook and my darling friend, Susan told me that she has discovered Delicata Squash and is enjoying it even more than the Acorn Squash..... so I googled it and came across this recipe which I hope to try the next time I go squash shopping.  I'll let you know how it turns out and what I think about the flavor of this squash.

Here is the Link To The Recipe I hope to try.

If anyone out there has a good recipe for Delicata Squash or bakes it differently, please share with all of us squash loving fools.

I enjoy acorn squash this time of year too, with a little brown sugar, of course. I have never heard of Delicata. I am wondering what the difference is? Your dinner looks wonderful! We love our steaks smothered in mushrooms too! ~Patti

Set a place for me next time. Looks good. Although for reasons I don't understand, I have lost my taste for meat in my "older" years. I wonder why.

It looks amazing! I would love the mushrooms the best. Steak isn't my favorite - unless it's on a black and blue salad - I do love those once in a while.

The food looks delicious! Sadly I'm the only one in the family that loves squash. On the other hand, that does leave more for me... ;-)

Pork loin and squash. That meal looks wonderful. And y'all didn't have me for dinner? So sad! That would have been my favorite meal.

My hubs and I had steak (he had filet and I had ribeye) and potatoes (he had russet and I had sweet).

It's like we had nearly the same meal!

Oh dear! Forgot to say that I am wanting to try the Delecata squash. I haven't found it around here yet. I must not be looking hard enough.

Those look yummy. I will have to look for that type of squash in the store. We enjoy the winter squashes, too.

Have you ever tried making chicken ciacatore type sauce & putting it on the squash after you've "pulled" it with a fork (making strands)? We eat a lot of pork loin here...:)JP
