Per His Request

It was mid-September and Hubby wanted to do some cooking or baking, something sort of high caloric I would imagine, and he mentioned to me that, "we need some new spatulas".
So, I arrived at the store not knowing what kind of spatulas he wanted since of course there are a couple of kinds.
The 'clean the sides of the bowl out when you are baking' spatulas.
AND
the 'flip the burgers in the frying pan' kind of spatulas.

I stood in the aisle scratching my head and pondering which kind he could have meant, since the ones we had all worked fine if you asked me. Maybe not so pretty anymore, but they worked.
So, I bought both kinds.

Two days ago while flipping something in the frying pan... or scraping the overly cooked hash browns from the bottom of the pan because he turns the heat on too high, the handle of one of the brand new 'flip the burger' kind of spatulas snapped.

He immediately THREW it into the trash... No really, he THREW IT ACROSS THE ROOM into the trash can, and told me that I needed to blog about this and let everyone know that Farberware brand kitchen utensils are worthless, useless, pieces of ***#%&, and  so I am blogging about it.

Buyer beware according to Hubby.

lol that is funny and i agree, although you can add most brands to it since it's all junk from china now and not made to last like the old stuff. i love buying the old stuff from goodwill or flea markets or yard sales! it's all disposable now...dumb china!

Farberware has a cheaper line, and yes, it's not very good. Try OXO...it's a little more expensive, but they are pretty sturdy.

But I would stay out of the line of fire when he tries it. ;)

My spatulas are from Pampered Chef, and I have had them about 10 years, so no complaints here!

"They" say never to use rubber while cooking as it leaves behind particles...

Most of my utensils are from thrift stores and are likely over 20 years old.

Love the fact he flung the facking Farberware across the room. :)

Ha, that's funny! And the fact that he actually told you to blog about it is even funnier!

That facking farberware. It really is cheap sh*t. Sorry for the profanity.. but sometimes it fits :-)

I can absolutely identify with the mood in the kitchen when that handle snapped ... I throw stuff, too. Add me to the list of folks who buy utensils second-hand. Can't understand knowingly manufacturing and selling things that won't last.

Oh dear!
My husband got me all new utensils for Christmas--he's a real romantic that way. Not sure what brands they all are, but some were by Le Creuset.
That's funny how he chucked it.

I have OXO and they've lasted quite a while. Poor guy, I hope nothing that tragic ever happens again:-)

I would probably have done the same thing...Did he make the shot? :)

Great post Diane BECAUSE it has been a gripe of mine. Trying to flip a fried egg, or hamburger with a flimsy plastic spatula . . . not possible. I use my old small size Pampered Chef which I have had for more than ten years and a larger "flipper", not sure of the brand, stainless steel with the initials JR. Work like a charm. I appreciated the comments . . . and plan to check out some second hand stores fior old utensils.

Why do men do that? Turn the heat on high, I mean...the Pres does that too even though he's not supposed to not because I tell him...because it says it in the manual that came with the stove! His mother has told him too...just can't get it through his thick head! My daughter bought us some spatulas that have stainless handles!...:)JP

I hate it when things break when I am in the middle of something, without any warning. I have been known to toss things and curse. Am I missing a brother?????

Pampered Chef is my favorite! I bought two, many years ago & they lasted really well, however Last Night the Larger one's handle broke
(due to my hubbie's rough handling),
just a chip out of the handle...so still useable for now. I'm going to
get more, I really love the small narrow one...so good for many things!
Hope the new year brings you joy!

LOL! Well it is very frustrating when you purchase something and it breaks the first time you use it. I will indeed watch out for that brand!
